PACKET RADIO: Numbered Radiograms

Steve Wolf, W8IZ@W8IZ

(This text from the W8IZ packet radio bulletin

board. It's formatted to fit a 80 character screen.)

Arrl numbered radiograms allow an amateur radio operator to send NTS traffic in a very compact form. It is typically used when amateurs do public service work and handle messages for public events, emergencies and like situations.

DO NOT USE ARL NUMBERED RADIOGRAMS IN TRAFFIC WHICH MAY TRAVEL
OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES! ANY ARL NUMBERED TRAFFIC WILL
BE KILLED. SOME COUNTRIES LOOK AT THIS TRAFFIC AS BEING CODED
OR CYPHERED AND IT MAY GET THE SYSOP IN TROUBLE. AGAIN, IF
THERE IS A CHANCE OF IT GOING OUTSIDE OF THE USA, DON'T USE IT

A R R L N U M B E R E D R A D I O G R A M S

The letters ARL are inserted in the preamble in the check and in the text
before spelled out numbers, which represent texts from this list. Note that
some ARL texts include insertion of numerals. Example:

NR 1 R W1AW ARL 5 NEWINGTON CT DEC 25
DONALD R. SMITH
164 EAST SIXTH AVE
NORTH RIVER CITY MO
PHONE 733 3968
