Wolf's Motorhome Modifications
... and Other Stuff
Yours might be ready to fail
Arriving home I loaded water into my fresh water tank to flush it. After a while I noticed the overflow wasn't overflowing. I found the inside flooded. Road debris hit my overflow pipe, forcing it up and breaking it off inside the motorhome. The overflow exhausts through a half-inch PEX pipe hanging down inside the driver's side rear wheel well.
You can access the top of the fresh water tank by removing the drawer below the back closet. I believe road debris whacked that hose forcing it upward. That broke a fitting on the top of the tank.
I was able to remove the fitting screwed into the tank. Using a Dremel tool I cleaned it up. I was able to use three-quarters braided tubing to attach to the fitting again installed in the tank. It was simple to remove the old PEX and push up the new tubing from outside. Here's the fix on the inside.
Outside I cut the new tube and using a stainless screw, attached it to the underlayment. Although not shown here, this is sealed using construction adhesive.
Voila! The motorhome, when required, can pee all over itself again.
If you have not had this problem, if your overflow is poking out of the hole, if it is ready to be pushed up, you need to fix it. Cut it flush with the hole and secure it with a stainless screw. Problem solved.
